Ministry to Hold Christmas Celebration
The public is invited to attend
a free Christmas celebration pro­
gram on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 7
p.m. that is held annually at the
New Beginnings Christian Center
Music Ministry, 7600 N.E. Glisan.
The ministry will present “An-
them of Praise,” a showcase of
praise and worship songs. A mu­
sical presentation of Christmas
and Chanukah that unites and
represents diverse musical styles
is also planned.

Mrs. Preston departed this
life on Monday, Nov. 26,2001 at
Oregon Health Sciences Univer­
sity.
She was a long time resident
of Portland, a native of Warren,
Ark.
She was a member of Antioch
Missionary Baptist Church for
30 years, where she served faith­
fully on the senior usher board
for just as long. She worked at
fundraisers, collections of build­
ing funds, and other charities
for her church family, all with
love.
She is survived by six daugh­
ters, C aro ly n Sue, JoA nn,
G w endolyn L ouise, Brenda
Marie and Sharon, all of Port-
Annie Pearl Preston
land, and Tresseme of Oceanside,
Calif.; two sons, Michael and
Jessie o f Portland; 17 grandchil­
dren, 24 great-grandchildren; six
sisters, Norma Jean W heeler and
Georgia Lee, both of Mil waukee,
Wis., Mary Sue Boyrd of Califor­
nia, Francis Coleman o f Flint,
Mich., Gracie Mae York and
Nancy Sue Hampton, both of
Arkansas; tw o brothers, Richard
Lee Marks o f Portland and James
Ralph M arks o f Chicago; and a
host o f nieces, nephews, cous­
ins and very special friends.
H er grandsons will serve as
pallbearers. The Killingsworth
Little Chapel o f Chimes will direct
the funeral services.

Union Gospel Mission is gear­
ing up for Christmas after serving
1,253 meals to Portland’s home­
less and needy in a tent that
spanned Northwest Third Avenue
between Burnside and Couch on
Thanksgiving Day. The lent was
donated by Northwest Natural
Gas, enabling the mission to serve
more people at one time and the
space for staged live music. The
number o f people served nearly
doubled from last year.

m em ber o f the church. She
m arried H arrison L ee Taylor;
he died in 1978.
Survivors include her daugh­
ters, Lekeisha, Blondell, Yolanda
Taylor-Frazier and Carolyn Hol­
land-Mitchell; sons, Terrance
and Sheldon H olland; sister,
Blondean L ockhart; and 10
grandchildren.
