C o n tre ra s e x p lic ó que los
responsables de la operación
“adoptaron un dispositivo de
observación y e sc u c h a ” .
L a s a v a n z a d a s d e lo s
g u e r r i l l e r o s d e te c ta r o n la
operación m ilitar, hostigaron a
las tropas y se dieron a la hu id a,
continuó el oficial, quien resaltó
que en ese m om ento se produjo
el
r e s c a te
de
c u a tr o
secuestrados, entre ellos una
mujer.
D espués de dos horas de
búsqueda, las tropas hallaron
el cadáver de la ex m inistra,
lam entó el general, para quien
ella fue víctim a de una “ n efasta
acción te r r o r is ta ” del grupo
guerrillero.

Liberación Nacional (EZLN) se
alzó en armas en 1994.
Dinosaur Eggs
Discovered in
Argentina
The dinosaurs belong to the
group called sauropods, among
the largest to walk the planet.
Six eggs containing the fossils
o f baby dinosaurs have been
found in Argentina.
The skulls, which are remark­
ably well-preserved, provide clues
to how dinosaurs’ heads devel­
oped and evolved.
The fossils were found at Auca
Mahuevo, Argentina, a site that
has previously yielded simi lar fos­
sils, dating back to some 65-145
million years ago.
The dinosaurs are titanosaurs
- members o f the group o f long­
necked, long-tailed plant-eaters
called sauropods.
The first titanosaur was found
in 1842. Since then, their bones
have been located on every con­
tinent except A n tarctica and
Australasia.
Yet very few skull specimens
have been found, because the
bones o f the skeleton, except the
limbs, are very fragile.
These skulls - a few centimetres
across - are so well preserved that
even the teeth are visible, devel­
oping in the jaw.
The team behind the find - led
by Luis Chiappe from the Natural
History Museum o f Los Angeles
County - say the discovery could
help explain certain evolutionary
events in dinosaurs.
It is not clear precisely what
type o f titanosaur the dinosaurs
belong to. They possess features
o f at least three different species.
At least 30 sauropods have now
been identified. T he largest,
/trgentinosaurus huinculensis,
found in Patagonia, was more than
40 metres in length and weighed
about 90 tores. It was one o f the
largest creatures to ever walk the
Earth.
Titanosaurs were the most suc­
cessful o f the sauropods. They
survived right up to the mass ex­
tinction 65 million years ago.
