social cobró ayer nueva fuerza en
Argentina, al iniciarse tres días de
huelgas y b arricad as contra el

grants arrived in the United States
during the 1990s, changing the
face o f schools and com m unities
not only on A m erica’s Shores,
but in its m idsection as w ell, the
Census B ureau reported. N early
one-fifth o f A m erica’s school-
age children now speak a lan­
guage other than English at home,
and that hom e is more likely to be
outside the states im m igrants
have settled in, the bureau said.
T he increase in im m igration
means that approxim ately 44 per­
cent o f the nation’s total im m i­
grant population o f 30.5 m illion
arrived in the U nited States in the
