The event features five- Gramm y win- tim e s Robert Cray ners, The Band, Chaka K han, B uck­ wheat Zydeco, Indegenous and top local acts. The success o f last y e a r’s initial “ Ja m m in ’ for Salm on” on the U m atilla res­ ervation inspired the C om m is­ sion to bring the event to the Colum bia B asin’s largest city. “ Jam m in’ for Salm on” is guided by a vision to celebrate salm on culture in a m anner that blends tradition with popu­ lar culture and mass com m uni­ cation. Partnering with the City o f Portland and institutions like OM SI, the Com m ission ex­ pects “Jam m in’ for Salm on” to becom e an annual event in the Portland area. In addition to the music, festival-goers can take free jet-boat rides across the W illamette to view salmon- related dem onstrations and ex­ hibits at OM SI, and kids can learn about salm on species w hile playing at the Pacific Pow er K id s’ Pow er Pavilion. Food, o f course, will be a highlight as traditionally pre­ pared salm on and fry bread will be available along with an eclectic selection o f cuisine. An added attraction will be an Art M arketplace with N a­ tiv e fin e a rts an d c ra f ts . Twenty artists will display their work offering Portlanders a chance to view and purchase national caliber art.
