Bush Weighs Residency for Illegal Mexicans
W A SHINGTON (AP)— The Bush
adm inistration is considering grant­
ing legal residency to m illions o f u n ­
docum ented M exican immigrants liv­
ing in the U nited States.
Such am nesty would give a perm a­
nent reprieve to certain M exicans liv­
ing undercover in this country, largely
in the bo rd er states. It also could be
a political boon to the Republican
president as he seeks H ispanic sup­
port.
T here are 3 m illion M exican-bom
people living illegally in the United
States, according to a report last w eek
by M e x ico ’s N ational Population
Council.

Justice and State D epartm ent o ffi­
cials planned to send President B ush
a report M onday on the broad out­
lines o f U .S.-M exican border issues.
It w ill recom m end that the U nited
States address illegal immigration, but
w ill stop short o f offering concrete
proposals, a Justice D epartm ent o ffi­
cial said Sunday.
T he task force is considering sev­
eral options, including a proposal to
give the illegal M exican im m igrants
perm anent residency, said the offi­
cial, speaking on condition o f ano­
nym ity. T hat is w hat M exican P resi­
dent V icente Fox has been pressing
Bush for.

w ould adm inister such a program .
T he official said issues under consid­
eration include how quickly the imrtii-
grants could earn legal status, and
w hether they w ould gain such status
based on date o f entry into the U nited
S tates, or by occupation, such as

after Bush and Fox m et in February.

officials inCalifomia and Arizona later
this month to discuss border issues.
He and Powell also will meet with their
M exican counterparts in early A u ­
gust. The prelim inary report w ill be
presented to Bush as Fox com pletes
a five-day visit to the United States
this week. On M onday, Fox planned
to m eet in Detroit with auto execu­
tives and union officials.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said he
would back the kind o f am nesty move
now under consideration.
“ I believe that these people are
living here, and it’s a recognition o f
reality. They are w orking here,” he
said on N B C ’s M eet the Press.

En este estudio se trata de lograr y entender lo que significa para una familia vivir con el desorden de
la deficiencia de atención hiperactiva (ADHD). Virtualmente no existe ninguna investigación sobre la
forma en que las familias hispanas y africanoamericanas experimentan y manejan ADHD. las
necesidades de salud que pudieran tener, y las oportunidades con las que cuenten para recibir estos
beneficios. El estudio consiste en dos reuniones, como de dos horas cada una, en su casa o en algún otro
lugar que le convenga a usted.
¿.Cuáles familias son elegibles?
Las familias que tengan al menos un niño (de 6 a 19 años de edad) ya diagnosticado con ADHD.
Las familias que estén formadas por al menos dos personas (el niño con ADHD y su padre o
madre). Ojalá que ambos padres y los hermanos también participen.
Las familias que estén dispuestas a participar en una entrevista y completar una serie de
cuestionarios.
Las familias que hablen inglés o que estén dispuestas a trabajar por medio de un intérprete.
Los padres de familia que sepan leer y escribir a nivel de quinto año de primaria o que estén
dispuestos a que les lean las preguntas en su idioma.
Se podrá contar con intérpretes en español.
