Wages and other costs o f employ ing SCSEP partic iparits are paid for by Federal grant funds. There are no costs to a participating agency for having an SCSEP participant assigned to them. Thepuiposeofthe SCSEP is to offer a “stepping stone” back into the woik force. Positions are not meant to be permanent employment, and all assign ments are temporary. Participants un dergo assessment, testing and coun seling while on the program. Every ef fort is made tomatch the participantand the training site as closely as possible. The program requires partici pants to attend periodic training sessions, and may also arrange for them to take classes to further in crease their training skills. Partici pants are not available to the train ing site during these times. SCSEP participants may be trained in a wide variety o f duties. These can include: providing so cial services to other seniors and the community, clerical/office sup port, cooking, and kitchen duties, building maintenance and minor repairs, helping at child care cen ters, and many other tasks.
