Willy T Ribbs is one of the new faces
joining the 2001 NASCAR Craftsman
Truck Series (NCTS). A veteran SCCA
and Indy racer, Ribbs was able to con
vert his participation in the NCTS dri
ver diversity-testing program into a seat
in a Dodge Ram truck for Bobby
Hamilton's racing team.
"To be involved in a factory-backed
effort with Dodge is the sort of thing
that drivers get into racing for," said
Ribbs. "This is a great opportunity for
me to compete in the NASCAR
Craftsman Truck Series for a team as
successful as Bobby Hamilton Racing."
"Dodge and DaimlerChrylser have
both stood for providing opportunities
to qualified employees," said Jim Julow,
vice president, Dodge global brand cen
ter. "With the momentum and support
of Dodge's return to the NASCAR
Winston Cup series and NASCAR's
commitment to enhancing minority
participation in their series, we feel this
is the right thing to do and the right
time to do it."
By helping to fund a scholarship pro

motorsports diversity program to also
include opportunities in road racing
and drag racing.
In the 2000 BF Goodrich Tires Trans
AM season, Ribbs tied for seventh place
by taking second in Long Beach, third
in Detroit, fourth in Las Vegas and fifth
at the season finale in San Diego.
"Willy T. Ribbs is seen as an inspira
tion for many aspiring African
American drivers," said NASCAR Vice
President Brian France. The only other
black driver in the NASCAR truck
series is Preston Tutt, who plans to
drive the Billy Ballew Motorsports
entry. Other African-American drivers,
Tim Woods and Bill Lester also partici
pated in the diversity-testing program
and are still looking for a ride in the
series.
