Jefferson Wins PIL Title
With 2-Point Conversion

Jullian Littleton and Evan M artin
saved Jefferson in the closing m in­
utes and lifted the D em ocrats to their
second straight Portland Interscho­
lastic Ixague football title Friday night
with a 23-22 victory o ver Franklin at
M adison H igh School.
Littleton, a seniortight end, caught
a pass from A aron M iles for a two-
point conversion w ith 1 m inute, 58
seconds rem aining to give the D emo­
crats the win. Jefferson (6-3,6-1 PIL)
will be the league’s No. 1 seed going
into next w eek’s playoffs; Franklin
(7 -2 ,6 -1 ) is the No. 2 seed.

“ I m ade a cut and cam e across the
field and knew it w as a big play and I
had to catch it,” L ittleton said. “ It
feels great.”

the ball in m y athletes’ hands, and
they alw ays seem to do som ething
great. I told them to ju st keep fighting,
and the outcom e is going to go in our
favor.”
Until the final m inutes, it w as a
battle o f turnovers. Jefferson had five
fum bles, including tw o inside the
Franklin 20-yard line in the first half.

ter, it appeared Franklin had a 22-7
lead and appeared to be on its w ay to
the city title.
B u t J e ff e r s o n ’s M ic h a e l L ee
caught a 62-yard touchdow n pass
from M iles late in the third quarter to
cut the lead to 22-15. D uring the play,
a Jefferson personal foul penalty was
w aved o ff w hen it looked like L ee’s
score m ight be called back.
Franklin made its share o f mistakes in
the second half, hurting itself with two
fumbles and two interceptions.

D ave M innich’s 2-yard touchdown
run that capped a 54-yard drive with
1:47 left in the first half. M innich
carried 25 tim es for 108 yards and a
touchdown. The D ucks had gone up
16-10 on a 46-yard field goal by F rankel
after R ashad B aum an picked o ff
G esser’s pass and ran it back 42 yards
for a touchdown.
O regon scored on its first posses­
sion on an 8-yard touchdow n pass to
M orris from H arrington. The touch­
dow n w as set up by a 48-yard pass
play from H arrington to T ucker on
the Ducks ’ first play from scrim m age.
T ucker caught nine passes for 142
yards and a touchdown.
W ashington State answ ered with
a 56-yard pass play. G esser pitched
to w ide receiver Collin Henderson,
who threw to Nakoa McElrath streak­
ing dow n the left sideline to the O r­
egon 3. A dam Hawkins scored on a 1 -
yard touchdown. W ilaikul hit a 41
yard-field goal to m ake it 10-7.
Benson 18-0 in League
The Benson tech volleyball team has
had a great season. Atterasummerwhere
the lady Techsters placed second in the
nation in the Starling National tourna­
ment in San Diego, the women o f Tech
began to focus on the P.I.L. champion­
ship. Boy did they ever, win the league in
dominating fashion. They finished the
season 18 wins to 0 losses, losing only
one game in league play.
