W U w y minority enterprise is an important element in the business
section of Portland. Contributing innumerable products and services,
as well as providing meaningful jobs for our citizens; and
owning one’s own business is basic to the American way of
life, and it is important that all American way of life, and it is
important that all Americans have the opportunity to participate fully
in these independent business ventures; and
c]Vheteafi', the week of October 1 through October 7, 2000 has been set
aside in recognition of the progress made by minority enterprise and
to focus attention on the responsibility we all have to further their
success;
therefore, I, Vera Katz, Mayor of the City of Portland, Oregon,
“the City o f Roses,” do hereby proclaim the week of October 4
