Portland Hosts International Photography
Photograph by Phil Borges
During the month of October,
Portland will be celebrating its pre
mier event. Photo Americas 2000,
placing itself first among West
Coast cities to host an international
Photography Festival. Capitalizing
on that energy, the Photographic
Image Gallery will hold a group
show o f 53 gallery artists.
A group show in this setting is an
excellent way to showcase the cura
torial vein of the gallery.
Artist careers are traced through
retrospective shows, providing a
venue to see the artists develop
ment. In the same way a viewer can
ascertain the progression and con
sistency of a gallery through a group
show.
M ixing with highly recog
nized photographers like C hris
topher Burkett, Chip Hooper,
Phil Borges, and Jam es Balog
will be some o f today’s more
contemporary emerging photog
raphers like Connie Imboden,
B eth
Y a rn e lle
E d w a rd s ,
Deborah W hitehouse, and Paul
Kozal.
The gallery is open regularly
Monday through Saturday from 10
a m. - 5:30 p.m., and is located at
240 SW. First Avenue, on the MAX
rail line at the Oak Street Station.
