How It Happened We Got Engaged 12/22/99
Dion is the Youth Pastor at our Church. On Wednesday evening, as Bible Study was
drawing to a close, he left his Youth group to join me at the Adult lesson as it was ending
Part o f our worship is the testimony time when anyone can give a Praise Report" on
G od’s goodness. Dion wanted to give his "Praise Report" but he was too late, no one
was left in the Sanctuary except my Pastor, his wife and me. So we decided to listen to
Dion's testimony. He began to fum ble with his pocket and started to talk about what a
Blessing I was to him and how much he loves me. I was sooooo surprised... Then he got
down on one knee, slipped a beautiful ring on my finger and asked me to marry him! I
couldn 7 believe it! I was soooo happy! This was the proposal. I had been dreaming
of... After what seemed like a Lifetime. Dori, my friend and Pastor's wife, said "Well,
aren 't you going to answer him?!!! That brought me back to reality. I rejoiced, "Yes, Yes,
O f course...Yes. " We rushed to his p a ren t’s home, hand in hand, to share the Good news!

The Gospel Music Workshop o f America, Incorporated (GM WA) selected the
Morial Convention Center and the Marriott Hotel in downtown New Orleans,
Louisiana to serve as host sites for their 33"1 Annual Convention which was
held August 12-18,2000.
The GMWA is a nonprofit, interdenominational, interracial organization that
was established in 1967 by the late great gospel composer, producer and artist,
Reverend James Cleveland, whose vision for preserving and celebrating the
rich heritage o f gospel music was brought into fruition along with fellow gospel
artists and friends upon his untimely death.
The GMWA headquarters address is 3908 West Warren Avenue, Detroit,
Michigan, 48208. Under the leadership o f Bishop Albert L. Jamison, Sr.
(Chairman o f the Board), a team o f twenty-five Board o f Directors serve to
facilitate the planning o f the annual convention. Each board member’s expertise
is as diverse as the music, and it is because o f their diligence, perseverance and
commitment that the GMWA has grown into the largest religious music
organization and convention in the world today.
The membership o f this organization is comprised o f chapters representing the
50 states, as well as international chapters o f delegates (including Paris,
London, & Tokyo). It is estimated that over 5000 delegates attend this
weeklong convention to partake in the daily workshops, evening workshop
services. Musical showcases and fashion show.
Again this year, the northwest region was represented by a delegation from
the Portland/Vancouver Chapter (PVC), which consisted o f 16 youth and 28
adults, who traveled to this “Mecca for gospel music lovers” to experience a
little “heavan here on earth” via the praise and worship ministry workshops
held at this annual event.
The Portland/Vancouver Chapter (PVC) was officially installed by National
Board o f Directors member, Helen Stephens (Northern California Chapter)
On April 8,1995. The purpose o f the division o f the GMWA is to establish a
fellowship among various ministries throughout Oregon and Southwest
Washington. The PVC Chapter Representative for the Mass Choir is Dorothy
Davis, who considers this event to be”. .. not only a time o f ministry, but a time
to get ministered to ... It’s a time o f refreshing and reviving. There are classes
within the academic division for every area o f ministry... This convention is
so unique because there’s something for everyone and it provides a forum
where like GMWA overall theme states Everybody is Somebody."
