Grant frustrates Trail Blazers again AsSOCJAItftÎRÏSS The Trail Blazers’ front office unleashed its frustration with free agent Brian Grant on Monday, while G rant’s agent said he wondered what all the fuss was about. A high-level source with the Blazers said Grant had just rejected a six-year, $70 million contract offer to return to the team. “He does not want to be in Portland,” the source said. “We have reached our limit___ To us, this is a slap in the face.” Mark Bartelstein, who represents Grant, took issue with that. “As far as these reports that Brian said, ‘Get lost,’ or anything like that, nothing cov'dbe further from the truth,” Bartelstein said. “W edon’t deal in ultimatums. fit .»____ ( i and they haven’t done that___ This is far from acrimonius.” The shouting match seemed to make one thing clear: If the Blazers and Grant want each other anymore, they must patch things up quickly. And the Blazers probably would have to raise their o tier again, moving closer or all the way to the seven-year, $93 million deal that is the best available to Grant under NBA rules. Otherwise, Grant either will continue trying to negotiate a sign-and-trade deal. preferably one that would move him to Miami or New York, or leave the Blazers empty-handed by signing for $2.25 million next season with Miami. A three-way trade, with Grant going to the Heat or Knicks and the Blazers getting Cleveland’s Shawn Kemp, still is possible. Grant visited the Heat las, week on his way to a vacation in Jamaica.
