On April 17th in Cape Town, South
Africa, the regal, six-foot tall, 17
year-old Nombulelo Mazibuko won
the M-Net Face o f Africa 2000
m o d e lin g c o m p e titio n . T he
program ’s third annual w inner,
Nombulelo has been launched into
a glittering international modeling
career.
Having won her title a mere three
months ago, Nombulelo has already
been featured in an eight-page
spread in the July issue o f the French
magazine, Madame Figaro. She also
appears on the cover o f the July
2000 edition o f the celebrated
magazine Divas, usually reserved
fo r e n te rta in m e n t s u p e rs ta rs .
Nombulelo has also appeared on
the cover o f the trend-setting Y
Fashion Show
and Dance

D iana’s Fashion Boutique will
host a fashion show and dance
party on Saturday July 29th at
7:00 PM on the rooftop o f the
Standard Dairy Building at 2808
NE Martin Luther King JR. Blvd.
In Portland.
The theme o f the event is “ Sisters
Feeling De Spirit”. Music from
Africa and the Caribbean will be
provided by the 12 piece band
Shamir, which includes a female
vocal group. The event will also
feature an optional gourmet dinner
and motivational speaker Laurice
Brown.

at the launch o f Fashion TV, and
recently completed assignments for
GQ, and Fair Lady.
Now Nombulelo is poised to make
her New York debut this fall at 7th
on Sixth- New YorkFashion Week,
as part ofthe Africa Designs fashion
show, walking the catwalk in clothes
created by some o f the African
continent’s hottest up-and-coming
designers.

regional finalists from twelve

Whispered, "This really is a dream
that has come true for me. It will
change my life. And I am so proud
and excited to follow in the footsteps
o f Benvinda and Oluci,” she said,
referring to the competition’s first
two winners. In a bid to promote
African designers in the same way
they have successfully promoted
African beauty, M-Net, the African
continent’s largest subscription
television broadcaster, has launched
the A fric a D esig n s fashion
competition.
Promising Designers throughout the
continent were invited to submit
storyboards for a summer garment
collections. Four finalists are to be
chosen in Johannesburg on 13th;
their collections will be presented
at 7th on Sixth - New York Fashion
W eek S e p te m b e r 14-22. T he
designers o f the m ost acclaim
collection wins a three-month paid
internship with fashion designers
MarkEisen. Face o f Africa winners
Nombulelo, Oluchi, and Benvida,
along with other African beauties,
will all be modeling these new and
exciting designs.
