A n autopsy was performed by the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Officeon Sunday, June 18th, and the cause ofdeath was determined to be drowning. Where: FirstCongregational Church, 1126 SW Park St. Portland (Across from Portland Art Museum) Detail: The Police Accountability Campaign 2000 (P A C 2 0 0 0 ) is h o ld in g a community speak out in downtown Portland to provide residents o f the area an opportunity to speak about their own experiences with police misconduct in a safe place. The event is b ein g c o -sp o n so re d by the new spaper Street Roots and by KPSU radio (1450 AM). This is the second speak out organized by the campaign. The first took place last May and was attended by over 250 residents in north/northeast Portland. The event is being held in the downtown area this time to provide an opportunity to address police misconduct that has been directed against low-income residents, day workers, people o f color and the hom eless. The driver o f the second vehicle, a 1991 Ford Mustang convertible, was 25 year-Old Brandon Lee Swart of Vancouver, Washington. 25 year-old C o ry W ilson o f V an co u v er, Washington, was a passenger in the car. After the initial collision with the truck, S w art’s vehicle struck a pedestrian construction worker, 51 year-old Stanley J. Marciniuk o f Newberg, Oregon. Swart was extricated from his vehicle by the Portland Fire Bureau and was transported to Emanuel Hospital by Lifeflight. WilsonandMarciniuk were transported to Emanuel Hospital by ambulance. All three are reported to be in serious condition. Crime Stoppers Case for the week of June 19; 2000 CnmeStoppersCase#00-24: Robbery The Portland Police B ureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers, is asking for your help in identifying and a p p re h e n d in g the perso n responsible for a convenience store robbery. On Thursday, June 8,2000, at about 1:50 in the morning, the suspect walked into a 7-Eleven store located at 14750 SE Stark Street. After loitering for a time, the suspect grabbed the clerk from behind and led her to the cash register at knifepoint where he took money and cigarettes. The clerk received cuts to her chin and hand. The suspect is described as a young looking white male, 17 to 20 years of age, 5’9” tall, weighing 140 pounds with short dark or black hair. He was wearing a gray T-shirt with writing on the front, jeans, and was carrying a large black backpack. The suspect was armed with a hunting style knife, with an 8” to 10" blade. A surveillance video o f the suspect is available. Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward o f up to $ 1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that lead to an arrest in the case or any unsolved felony crime, and you need not give your name. DeRidder has 14 years o f experience as a professional planner and holds a Masters degree in Urban Planning from Portland State University. She has worked in planning and leadership positions in the cities o f Sandy and Oregon City, Oregon and for other cities as a consultant with Cogan Owens Cogan Consulting. In 1995, she received the Oregon Chapter o f the American Planning Association (A PA ) A w ard for O utstanding Achievements in Periodic Review. In 1996, the Oregon APA presented the City o f Sandy the award for Most Outstanding Project, the Neighboring Cities 2040 Project. She currently chairs the Ethics Committee o f the Oregon APA. Collision Sends Five To Hospital On Monday, June 26, 2000, at I 44 a.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle accident in the northbound lanes o f 1-205 on the Glen Jackson Bridge. Investigation revealed that 51 year-old Allen Wayne Wampler, ofTillamook, Oregon, employed as a construction worker on the bridge, was operating a 1993 Ford F-250 pickup with it’s amber caution lights activated.
