student bodies. Each court member represents her school at many i
I w ^ co m m unity events throughout the months o f May and June.
To qualify fo r the Rose Festival Court, the young woman must be a full-
L time student, be a member o f the graduating class, have a grade point
^a v e r a g e o f at least 2. / f , demonstrate good citizenship and have a good
attendance record. The candidates are evaluated on character,

communication and presence. The Portland Rose Festival Association

Turkish assailant Mehmet All Agca.
On May 17.1954. the Supreme Court issued
its landmark Brow n vs Board o f Education
o f Topeka ruling, which declared that racially
segregated public schools were inherently
unequal
