and sum m arize the results o f a statistically valid survey o f the social,
econom ic, and population characteristics o f O regonians. O regon State
governm ent is sponsoring this sixth biennial survey in order to enhance
the quality and tim eliness o f data available to decision makers.
Thissurvey builds on sim ilar efforts in 1990,1992,1994,1996 and 1998 and
will increase the effectiveness o f state agency decision-m aking and raise
governm ent and p opular aw areness o f trends in O reg o n ’s population.
