Volunteer drivers needed
CONTRIBUTED STORY
At 86, D orothy gave up driving. For
three years now, Project Linkage has
transported D orothy to her m edical
appointm ents several tim es a month.
D orothy has congestive heart failure
and cannot walk far. She also suffers
from leg ulcers that need to be
bandaged tw ice a w eek by a m edical
p ro fe ssio n a l. D ue to h er health
conditions.
D o ro th y re lie s on v o lu n te e r
transportation that is both responsive
to her special needs and affordable
on her sm all m onthly budget. She is
one o f m any seniors in northeast and
so u th e ast P ortlan d w ho rely on
Project Linkage to find a volunteer
w ho can take her to important medical
appointm ents, and we d o n ’t like to
disappoint her.
Project Linkage is in great need o f
daytim e volunteer drivers to help
tr a n s p o r t e ld e r ly r e s id e n ts o f
northeast and southeast Portland to
th e ir d o c to r a p p o in tm e n ts , th e
grocery store o r a social outing at
their local senior center. P roject
L inkage is expanding transportation
services into southeast Portland after
2 0 y e a rs o f se rv in g se n io rs in
northeast, and w e need your help to
m e e t th e g ro w in g d e m a n d fo r
affordable transportation for seniors.
Ifyou can volunteer 4 hours a month,
are over 23 years o f age and have a
good driving record, you can change
the world for som eone no longer able
to get around on her own. V olunteers
can choose to drive their ow n car, our
14-passenger m inibus, or our six-
passenger m inivan. All training is
provided.
Project Linkage is a program o f
Metropolitan Family Service, a private
nonprofit social service organization.

o f e ld e r ly r e s id e n ts re m a in
independent and self-sufficient in

Dr. Betty, as she cal led, is often asked
about standing in the shadow o f her
famous husband, to w hich she always
responds: I love it! It’s a great shadow
in w hich to be standing.” W hen the
M ississippi N ative met and m arried
Frederick KC Price, she not only gave
th e en co u rag em en t to b u ild the
m inistry, but created the outreach
program s that co ntributed to the
success o f the 11,000+sanctuary. Dr.
Betty Price plays a vital role in her
husband’s m inistry, as well as in the
operation o f the church.
H er influence in the developm ent o f
the C renshaw C hristian C enter and
its nationw ide television m inistry has
D o ris G. L am pkin w as b o rn in
M onaham , Texas in 1948 and m oved
to Portland area in 1951. She was
em ployed by G orgia Pacific as a
keyboard operator for 10 years. Doris
w as a m em ber o f Emmanuel Tem ple
and lived in Portland since 1951
