Fashionites on the American and
European circuit must have heard
about “clothes for the millennium”
so much that w e’re all wondering
“what will we wear?” Fashion is
inevitably linked to time - last year,
this year and the moment’s dominant
lo o k .

undercurrent, no matter what the
look, was relaxed.
D om enico D olce and Stefano
G abbana’s glamorous collection
featured rom antic hand-painted
butterflies and flowers on laminated
stretch silks and mercury fabrics
much like Reynolds wrap. Donatella
Versace showed a spectacular group
o f skintight pinstripes with silver
metallic touches. Lengths varied
from thigh-high to ankle in most
collections.
R u s s ia ’s V a le n tin Y ad ash k in
showed a marvelous black sheer
gown brush stroked with bugle
beads; Jean Louis Schemer designed
a spectacular gown o f wild pheasant.
Animal print was still on the fashion
scene in a dramatic mylar
fringed coat trimmed with fox
designed by France’s Carven.
G ucci’sT om Ford dwelled on
the casual mood with long
black skirts and ankle-length
pants. Skinny belts, sequinned
sweaters, and plastic trimmed
shoes, high and low-heeled
a c c e sso riz e d c a su a l and
evening wear. Colors ranged from
vibrant yellow to deep blues in
velvet, satin, silk and cybershine
fabrics.
Designs for the new millennium
have never been more luxurious,

wearable. It’s FASHIONS 2000 for
the turn o f the century!
The 42 Annual Ebony Fashion Fair
will appear in Portland at the Oregon
ConventionCenter, on Friday April
14,2000 at 8 pm. The world’s largest
traveling fashion show is produced
by E bony M a g a z in e and is
sponsored by The Portland Chapter
o f the Links, incorporated for the
benefit o f the Links’ educational
and scholarship fund.
