residents will have over a haif-million
dollars to their neighborhood visions
into reality under a proposal by M ayor
V era Katz. Katz wil 1 send a resolution
to C ity Council today to appropriate
$521,648 for the neighborhoods to
im plem ent parts o f the vision plans
th e y ’ve w orked on over the past
couple years.
“For tw o years, the citizen o f Gateway
and H ollyw ood/Sandy have been
w orking diligently on telling us w hat
they w ant their neighborhood to look
like, said Katz. “T hey’re excited about
their ideas, and I’m excited about
th e ir s te p p in g up an d g e ttin g
involved. This money will m ean they
can now start taking their ideas o ff
paper and turning them into real
com m unity pro jects they can be
w eapons.
John Fowler, the director o f cam pus
safety, who supervises the 15 security
officers, said that P SU ’s low crim e
rate w as a p ro d u ct o f effec tiv e
policing. He said the security fo rce’s
visibility has meant that criminals stay
aw ay from campus.

independent m onthly that com piles
results o f cam pus surveys required
by federal law. T he law is broad,
h o w e v e r, an d c r im e - r e p o r tin g
m ethods som etim es vary, making
com parisons difficult.

97, PSU had few er incidents o f
burglary or car thefts than the other
big university cam puses.

announced the release o f the new
online version o f the O regon Blue
Book at the state capital today in 21 “
century fashion: the press conference
was broadcast live on the internet.
“We are excited about the new look o f
the online Blue Book, and w anted to
publicize its ac ce ssib ility in the
m anner in w hich it will be used -
online,” Bradbury stated. “The new
web site is much easier to navigate
and gives the public more information
in one place,” he added.
The latest edition o f the Blue Book
