Domestic assault and kidnap of 5-year-old boy
On Friday, O cto b e r22,1999, at 5:45
a m ., N o rth P r e c in c t o f f ic e r s
responded to a report o f a serious
domestic assault in the 4900 block o f
N. Houghton Street.
On arrival uniform officers discovered
the victim, a 35-year-old female, had
been pistol w hipped about the head
sustaining m ultiple lacerations. In the
course o f trying to defend herself, the
victim also sustained broken bones
in both hands as w ell as a broken arm.
The victim was tied to a post in the
basem ent
on
T h u rs d a y ,
at
approx imately 8 p . m ., and her 5-year-
old son was kidnapped at gunpoint.
The victim rem ained bound in the
basem ent for over 91/2 hours, until
she was able to chew her way through
her restraints, w hich consisted o f
ropes and extension cord. The victim
broke free and fled to a neighbor’s
residence w here 911 w as called.
T he v ic tim w as tra n s p o rte d to
Emanuel Hospital w here she was
adm itted over the w eekend due to her
injuries.
The victim identified the suspect as
her boyfriend, 31-year-old, Steven
Ray M cCluskey. Inform ation lead to
the arrest o f M cCluskey on Friday,
O ctober 22,1999, at approxim ately 1
p.m. by officers o f the Lincoln City
P olice D epartm ent, w ho spotted
M cCluskey walking. A short time
later, the v ictim ’s stolen vehicle was
located in the Lincoln C ity O utlet
M all w ith the k id n a p p e d ch ild
unharm ed inside.

artist at the V ancouver S ym phony’s
Novem ber 6 Gala Concert. Parkening
is considered one o f the prem ier
virtuosos ofclassical guitar, dazzling
audiences w orldw ide with his superb
m usicianship and artistry.
The N ew Y ork Tim es states Mr.
P arkening is “perhaps the finest
technician on his instrum ent this
country has produced.” Likewise, the
W ashington Post says he “com bines
p ro fo u n d m u s ic a l in s ig h t w ith
com plete technical m astery o f his
instrum ent.” H e has perform ed with
orchestras from around the entire
globe and produced recordings and
c o m p a c t d is c s s o lo a n d in
com bination w ith other m ajor artists
such as K athleen B attle and Placido
Domingo.
Mr. Parkening is considered heir to
the classical guitar throne after the
death o f A ndres S egovia in 1987. He
in fact studied w ith Segovia as a
teenager after years o f listening to his
recordings and describes him as his
inspiration.

O fficers at V an co u v er P olice C entral precinct are
investigating reports o f m ale H ispanics Suspect targeting
female high school students w alking to and from school
in the 18'h Street and Carlson area o f V ancouver. A 14-
year-old student returning from Ft. Vancouver High School
first saw the suspect at3 p .m . on O ctober 12. She reported
the suspect as a m ale H ispanic, 25-35 years driving a
newer small green pickup. The pickup had purple squiggly

The subject passed the victim slow ly driving by. The
suspect turned around and stopped when he w as next to
her and opened his door so she could see he was
stim ulating him self. The subject did not say anything to
the victim.
The second occurrence was O ctober 18lh at 0713 in the
m orning. Tw o fem ale students saw the subject walking in
the 18lh Street and Carlson area. As the suspect w alked by
the girls, they noticed he was exposing him self to them.
The girls reported the incident to security officers at Fr.
V ancouver High School.
Central Police officers have initiated a saturation patrol
during the high-risk times when students walk to and from
school. The Clark County Sex offender unit has been
asked to review know n sex offenders for a sim ilar green
truck. A sim ilar incident happened this m orning near
Columbia River High School where a H ispamc male dri ving
a green pick up w ith swooshes on the side stopped and
exposed him selfto student w alking to school. ReferCCSO
#99-13927. The police are requesting the p u b lic’s help in
identifying the suspect in this case. I f anyone has
inform ation regarding this truck or it’s driver, they are
asked to call Sgt. Dave King at 696-8281.
