Portland Taiko, the Asian Ameri­
can drum performance ensemble,
will celebrate its fifth anniversary
with its home concert, M aking
W aves, on F riday, O ctober 22
and Satu rday, O ctober 23 in L in­
coln Perform ance Hall at Port­
land State University. (A shorter
children’s matinee with stories and
taiko will take place on the after­
noon o f October 23.)
Portland Taiko's power, humor,
and exuberance will weave through
traditional and contemporary taiko
rhythms, movement, and stories.
The performing art o f taiko has its
roots in ancient Japanese tradition
and is an evolving, contemporary
Asian American art form. To con­
tinue this tradition o f innovation,
