She was the sec­ ond o f five children. She talked often o f her youth and her en­ tre p r e n e u r ia l s p ir it, d o in g things such as selling hot ta­ males to the train patrons as they would pass through town. A fter living in Little Rock, Detroit, and Chicago, she m i­ grated to Oregon in 1944 where she moved to Vanport. Always the entrepreneur, she not only worked in the ship yard but she would also cook and sew on the side. She was an active and faith­ ful member at Hughes M eth­ odist Church and St. A ndrew ’s United Church o f Christ, which is the present day “Ainsworth United Church o f C hrist” . She has served as President o f the U sher Board, taught Sunday School and worked with the young w om en’s clubs. She was also a loyal m em ber o f the O.C.W. H arriett Tubman Club. She m arried A rthur Carson Septem ber 3, 1954. They were m arried for 28 loving years be­ fore his hom e-going in 1982. In her latter years, Rosie Lee e n jo y e d s p e n d in g tim e w ith her fam ily a n d anyone’s k id s. She lo v ed to sh a re her wisdom and comical an­ tid o te s on whosoever’s a tte n tio n she had at mo- th at m ent. Her m ore re- cent favor­ ite qu o te has b e e n , “ I ’m not c o m p l a in ­ ing. I’ve had a good life. I d o n ’t mind being old, but it’s so inconvenient!" R osie had one son, John T h o rn to n , and g ran d so n , Michael Carson, who both pre­ ceded her in death.
