In December 1994, the Federal Transit Administration approved an amendment to extend the rail line from S.W. 185"’ Avenue into downtown Hillsboro by Autumn, 1998. Fiscal year 2000 funding requested in this grant application is for the final installment of the rail project, up to $14,061,930 in federal assistance. (Exact amount depends on Congressional action.) These federal funds would be matched with up to $7,029,910 in local dollars for a total project budget of up to $21,091,840. Project expenditures would replenish Tri-Met funds used to support civil construction including procurement of vehicles, track, electrification, signals, communication and fare collection equipment, and other system requirements; right of way acquisition; and project administration. A discussion of displacement of persons, families and businesses associated with the Westside-Hillsboro Project is included in Final Environmental Impact Statements on file at Tri-Met offices. The project is in conformance with comprehensive land use and transportation planning in the area and is programmed in regional and State Transportation Improvement Programs.
