Since its formation in 1988 thechoir has won numerous honors and awards for its contributions to gospel music. The group has traveled extensively throughout the United States toured Japan and appeared in Nassau the Ba­ hamas. W hen you consider the level o f success enjoyed by this relatively nov­ ice group o f singers it becom es evi­ dent that serving the Lord pays off. After w restling with the idea o f forming a mass choir for som e time Frank W illiams a member o f the J ack- son Southem aires and an executive in the gospel music division o f M alco Records decided to form The M is­ sissippi M ass Choir. In the spring o f 1989.just five weeks after the debut album was released Billboard magazine certified it as the No. 1 spiritual album in the country. Six weeks later, the album also reached top o f the Cash Box chart. At the 1989 Stellar Awards, the choir received four Stellar C hoir o t the year Album o f the years Best A rtist, and Best G ospel Video. O n Decem ber 8, 1990 The M is­ sissippi M ass Choir recorded their second live project G od Gets The G lory at the M ississippi Coliseum before over 8,000 supporters from across the state and across the coun­ try tw o weeks after the album was released in O ctober 1991, it debuted on the billboard chart in the 16 position. By D ecem ber the m aga­ zine had certified it as the N o 1- gospel album in the county. In 1992, theblessings kept flowing. TheC hoirreceivedaStellar Award for Tradinal Choir o f the Year and was also nominated for album o f the year and video o f the year. Billboard Maga­ zine named the Choir Gospel Artists o f the Year and God Gets the Glory was named the 1992 Gospel Record o f the year by the magazine. The choir also received the “Best Sellers Award” from the National Association o f Record Merchandisers (N A R M ) and the Inno­ vation Award from the 3m corpora­ tion. ItRem ainsToBeSeen has sold approxim ately one-half million units and in January 1996, after three years the Choir presented their forth live recording I’ll See You In The Rap­ ture Guest artists included Rev.
