“Prepare Yourself
and three of your
friends for what
threatens to be
the scourge of our
achievements, the
Millennium Bug”
n less than a year we will be privileged to
be part of humanity that will witness the dawn of
the third millennium.
Not many people are lucky enough to transcend the
change of centuries, but as humanity prepares to
celebrate the end of the 2 0 ”' century, an era of
unparalleled scientific achievements, we must ensure,
as a country, that we are ready to contain what
threatens to become the scourge of our achievements
- the “Millennium Bug”.
The rise of the global Information economy has
transformed human life, nationally, regionally, locally,
and within the family.
The emergence of computer technology and the
Internet has changed the nature of work, relations
between people, media, messages and the patterns
of political life.
Unless we mobilize our collective effort to deal with
this scourge our achievements over the last century
will suffer irreparable damage.
I appeal to everyone, especially business people,
small, medium and microenterprises, big business,
public servants responsible for Information technology
at national, provincial and local government level to
ensure Y2K compliance In time for the new millennium.
Take preventative action and spread the word to
family, friends and business colleagues.
