text Old Town/Chinatown currently
incorporates two designated historic
districts - Skidmore/Old Town and
China/Japan Town. The architectural
and social fabric of these districts are
central to the character of the neigh­
borhood and are assets the commu­
nity would like to honor and enhance.
In addition, the neighborhood’s
greatest attribute is its people. In
this approxim ately 50-block area
there exists num erous small busi
nesses, several m ajor corporations,

retail establishm ents, some» of the
best restaurants in the city, night
life venues, social services and hous­
ing for nearly the full gam ut of the
socio-economic strata. All of these
various uses, patrons, employ­
ees, and residents co-exist en­
joying the diversity each seg­
m ent of the com m unity con­
tributes. M any people choose
to reside or locate their busi­
nesses here because of the di-

The Union Station is a historic landmark i m m v m I b*Jthe

receive renovation treatment where the front end will
soon have a parking and greenway area.
