The night before the final round at
Colonial Country Club, O lin Browne
celebrated his 40th birthday and then
tried to imagine him self making up
three strokes and wearing the plaid
jacket awarded to the champion.
“ I w ent to sleep thinking that,
and I w oke up thinking that,” Brow ne
said. "B ut the reality is, there w as a
lot o f steps to get th ere.”

ture o f health. He had surgery in
O ctober to repair a to m tendon in his
left elbow and d id n ’t so m uch as grip
a club until the second w eek o f Feb­
ruary. Even now, he is not allow ed to
hit m ore than 50 balls a day.

scoring singles in the eighth inning
as the Kansas City Royals rallied for
a 5-4 victory over the Seattle M ari­
ners, snapping their six-gam e w in­
ning streak.
Jermaine Dye, who scored the win­
ning run, added four hits and has
recorded multi-hit games in six straight
contests. It was his third career four-
hit game and extended his hitting streak
to a career-high 12 games.
“ It’s m ainly ju st in m y head,” said

am having fun and trying not to
overdo it. I’m seeing the ball well,
really all year.”
