Holidays is, notes Winans, “a pow erful praise song expressing ones eternal gratitude to Jesus for suf fering for us and being our true redeemer and Savior. “Already Been to the Water,” which, like one o f Vickie’s past hits, “Long As I Got King Jesus,” reaches deep down, bringing His light and joy to the heart, spirit, and soul. “ It has me singing Jesus with all my might,” Vickie says, her charming persona amplifying her words. “I think we say Jesus 50 to 60 times back to back in the songs! You see, I’m not ashamed to call His name,” she beams! “Safe In His Arms,” on which Winans once again vocally excels, has extra sig nificance for her because, she says, “it represents an incident wherein’ my son Skeeter was robbed at gun point. But because he pleaded the blood of Jesus, the gunnman kicked him to safety, unharmed. The power o f the “blood” is awesome. Live in Detroit II Awesome sums up the album's “Old Gospel Medley” which con sists o f the tried and true tradi tional church songs “ I Know the Lord Will Make A Way,” Ju st Vickie Winans Another Day That the Lord Has Kept Me,” “ I Know What I’d Do Without the Lord,” and “I Thank OB the Lord Because He’s Been So Good to Me.” Traversing the gen e ra tio n g ap, as the m edley progresses the segment goes from traditional inspirational into what can only be described as a funky contem porary gospel groove - Vickie Winans style. “ Spirit o f the Living God,” an other power praise offering, is also analbumhighlight. “NeverGonna Let You Go,” and “O Holy Lamb,” also provide faithful forums for Vickie to give her lyrical and mu sical testimony. Vickie’s righteous remake o f Marvin Winans' Ain't No Need To Worry," is a testi mony to her expansive ability to make anything she sings her own. With the Grace o f God she takes it to Higher ground. "Every song was chosen because it gave glory to God, plus hope, enjoyment, and spiritual direction to me, and hope fully to everyone who listens to the album." r In Loving Memory of Roy Curry Sr. Bom 01-28-34 in Bryant, Texas died 04-08-99 in Port land, Oregon.
