Clark County Underscores Local issues in
Response to Bureau of Indian affairs
O n T hursday, A pril 8, 1999 Clark
C ounty provided the Federal Bureau o f
Indian Affairs O ffice in Portland, O r­
egon, w ith its response regarding a p ro­
posal to put 170.8 acres o f land in the
R idgefield area into trust status.
In addition toproviding specific tech­
nical data requested b y the Bureau o f
Indian A flairs, the county also responded
to the BLA’s requested for information
about local concerns.
C h ief am ong the concerns cited by
the county w as m aintaining the integrity
ofClark C ounty scom prehensive lu n d -
u sep lan C ounty citizens as part o f an
extensive four-year public process de­
veloped the land-use plan.
“O ur land-use plan helps ensure that
our decisions are consistent with the
direction o ur citizens w ant the county to
go and that they treat people equitably,”
said Judie Stanton, chair o f the board o f
Clark C ounty comm issioners. “In re ­
sponding to the Bureau o f Indian A f­
fairs proposal, we are undersconngClark
C ounty’s need to fulfill our com m it­
