O Photo: Vidinghoff Photography Streetcar Construction Underway The first m odem streetcar in the United States started construc­ tion April 5 with track installation connecting Portland State Univer­ sity (PSU) downtown Portland to G ood Samaritan Hospital in N orthwest Portland. To kick o ff the construction. City Commis- sionerC harlie Hales was joined by Congressmen Earl Blumenauer and David Wu, the Honorable Mark Hatfield. Portland Streetcar Inc Board Chair Don M agnusen as well as over a hundred business owners and residents along the streetcar route. The new streetcar will run on tracks from PSU north on 10lh. west NW Northrup, south on 23rd. east on NW Lovejoy and then south on 11* back to PSU. The streetcar will boast 10-minute headways. Fares will be the same as Tri-Met and be transferable betw een the two transit providers. The streetcar will be fully operational early in 2001. Spring Book Sale Friends o f the W ilsonville Public Li­ brary are sponsoring their Spring book sale Saturday, April 10, from 9 AM to 6 PM at he Old Post Office Building at 30125 SW Boones Ferry Road.
