Palatine Hill Road. Dawson’s per­ form ance is the final event in the College’s 1998-99 A rts Alive series. In the play, N ichol’s character, J o ­ seph, a young inm ate at the O akbrook m ental institution, truly believes he is Poe, and he perform s a series of stun­ ning character portrayals - from child- hood friends to psychiatrists - to prove his point. Nichols also portrays Jo sep h ’s fellow patients who happen to have the sam e nam es as philoso­ phers D errida and Heidegger KEANU LAURENCE fishburne and poet T.S. Eliot. Nichols masterfully weaves Joseph’s memories and musings with Poe’s stories and poems (in­ cluding “The Raven”). Born in 1967 in Chicago, Nichols attended N orthw est­ ern University, w here he re­ ceived a m aster’s degree in p e rf o rm a n c e s tu d ie s .
