Waiting

A Home For
Nathaniel
ine-year-old M ichael, a handsom e
k
Nathaniel, 23 months is one o f 300 children who are
awaiting for an adoptive home through The Boys and Girls
Aid Society of Oregon.
Nathaniel is a dear little child o f
Hispanic heritage. Although he is
alm ost tw o years old. Nathaniel func-
tions developmentally at the age o f
3-4 months old. He needs to be
cuddled and hugged for long peri-
oHs o f tim e
Nathaniel has a number o f com-
plex needs resulting from being
shaken as an infant. His previously
frequent seizures now seem to be
controlled by his special Ketogenic
liquid diet (high in fat and low in
p ro te in an d c a rb o h y d ra te s ).
Nathaniel is also legally blind but
can see light and objects that are put
directly in front ofhis face. For these
reasons, he loves his vibrating mu-
sical mirror; while he lays on it he
can simultaneously see himsel f and
feel the motion!
Since Nathaniel is still develop-
ing motor control, he needs help
protecting him self as he learns to
move around. He is now able to sit
up and roll over. Physical and speech
therapy, feeding practice and vision
training are weekly services that are
assisting him in his recovery.
Nathaniel’s resilience is very much
to be admired. Despite the trauma he
has encountered at such an early
age, he has made marked progress
and has blossomed into a pleasant
and quiet child.
Nathaniel’s needs could best be
met by an adoptive family with at
least one stay-at-home parent since
h e h a s ‘round the clock needs. Most
o f all, Nathaniel needs adoptive
parent(s) to protect and cushion his
heart with the utmost o f loving care.
If you have a gentle and compas-
sionate soul, please consider adopt-
ing Nathaniel. He will be legally freed
for adoption once a family is found.
If you are interested in Nathaniel
or Michael, please contact The Boys
and Girls Aid Society at 222-9661 or
call 1/800-342-6688.

egon children currently aw aiting adoption.
M ichael is both challenging and charming.
Bright and articulate, he is a good conversa
tionalist and a pleasure to talk to. He loves to
learn and even w orks above grade level in
several areas. H ealthy outlets for this coor
dinated and athletic youngster include sports
and outdoor activities. M ichael also enjoys
art and expresses creativity through his draw
ings.
M ichael can give a lot to those individuals
he learns to care for. Like any child w hose
future is uncertain, at tim es he feels insecure
and anxious about what tomorrow might bring.
In a hom e w ith the structure and loving
attention he needs, M ichael could find sta
bility and thrive.
