The Oregon Jewish Museum Opens With
Photo Exhibit of Jewish Life
Ihe Oregon Jewish Museum (OJM)
opens its doors at its hist public location
with "Jews Germany Memory: Photo­
graphs by Edward Serotta, 1988-96,” a
portrait o f Jewish life in Germany today.
Ihe museum will host an open house 2
p .m to 4 :3 0 p m ., Sunday, J a a 24 1999 at
Montgomery Park Suite 715, 2701 N W
Vaughn in Portland. A t 3:00 p m ., during
die opening reception, three local schol­
ars will offer their insights about Jewish
life in Germany today.
The museum will also host a Fust
Thursday reception 5 p m to 8 p m Thurs­
day, Feb. 4.
“Jews Germany Memory” will be on
display at the Oregon Jewish Museum
through Feb. 28. The museum is open
noon to 3 p m . Tuesdays Through Thurs­
days, and 1 p m to 4 p m . Sundays. For

" I h e Oregon Jewish Museum was
lounded in 1989 by a volunteer group
committed to providing Oregon with a
museum o f Jewish art and history,” said
Linda 1 aviolette, the museum’s director.
"W e are delighted to finally' have a location
with enough space to house exhibits as
well as the m useum’s archives and office.’ ’
Over the past ten years, the Oregon
Jewish Museum has produced 13 Jewish
art and history exhibits at a variety o f
locations. In 1995, the Oregon Jewish
Museum merged with the Jewish histori­
cal Society o f Oregon and moved its of­
fice and collection trom pnvate homes
and businesses to space at tlx.' Oregon
Historical Society.
In July 1998, the OJM Board o f direc­
tors hired lavTofette as the m useum ’s fiist
director.
