Three Arrested In Septem ber
Beating Death
Crime Stoppers: Wanted Subject
The Portland Police B ureau’s
Detective division, in cooperation
with Crim e Stoppers, is asking for
your help in locating and appre­
hending Ronald Joseph Hauge. On
N ovem ber 16, 1998, Hauge en­
tered a convenience store in south­
east Portland and demanded money
from the clerk. W hen the clerk
refused, Hauge displayed a hand­
gun. H ague then had a violent
struggle with the clerk and left the
store after stealing som e money.

One Adult and Two Juveniles have been charged
On September 14,1998, the body
o f Lom Leroy Grindle, DOB August
16, 1956, was discovered near N.
Lombard St. and N. Carey Av. near
the railroad cut in St. Johns. Portland
Police Bureau homicide detectives
initiated an investigation after es­
tablishing Grindle died as the result
o f internal injuries caused by blunt
force trauma to his abdomen.
In recent weeks Portland Police
homicide detective John Rhodes and
Shirley McLaughlin developed in­
formation which led to the identity
o f three suspects. On December 11,
1998, Friday, information was pre­
sented to the M ultnomah County
Grand Jury' which led to the issuance
o f indictments for one adult and two
juveniles for M urder in the death o f
Lom Grindle.
On December 12,1998, Saturday,
Detectives Rhodes and McLaughlin
arrested Joseph Kelley Gann, DOB
March 6, 1980, at this home in St.
Johns for the m u rderof M rG rindle.
Gann was lodged in the Justice Cen­
ter Jail and w as a rra ig n e d in
Multnomah County Circuit Court on
Monday, December 14,1998.
On December 13, 1998, Sunday,
Detectives Rhodes and McLoughlin
arrested Ramon David Thomas. DOB
February 1,1982, at this home in St.
Johns and delivered him to the
Donald E. Long Home where he was
lodged for the Grindle homicide.
On that same date, Joseph G ann’s
younger brother, Joshua KerrGann,
DOB Sept. 14, 1981, was also
charged with M urder in the death of
Lom Grindle. Joshua Gann was in
custody at the Donald E. Long Home
on unrelated charges when police
reports were filed arresting him for
m urder for his involvem ent in
G rindle’s death.
Both Ramon Thomas and Joshua
Grindle are expected to be remanded
to adult court at a later date.

Portland Police M ake Arrests
In 1996 Double M u rd e r
As the result o f a continuing in­
vestigation by Portland Police homi­
cide detectives, two additional de­
fendants are under indictment and in
custody for the June 14,1996, homi­
cide o f Dennis K. Hester, age 20, and
Damon D. Johnson, age 22. Hester
and Johnson were shot and killed in
their carin 1996atN Minnesota Ave.
and N Watts St., Two passengers in
the same vehicle, Mecca Thurman,
age 19, and Domanick Campbell, age
18, were wounded by gunfire but
survived their injuries.
On July 31,1998, homicide detec­
tives David Ruby and Kris Ferrell
arrested Francisco C. Hernandez,
DOB May 31, 1977, in Bakersfield,
California, and charged him with two
counts o f Aggravated Murder and
two counts o f Attempted Aggravated
Murder. Hernandez has since been
extradited back to Oregon and is pend­
ing trial in Multnomah County Circuit
Court.
On December 11,1998,Friday,De­
tectives Ruby and Ferrell arrested
James Lee Munoz, DOB November
25, 1978, in Portland, at his place of
employment, and charged him with
two counts o f aggravated Murder,
two Counts o f Attempted Aggra­
vated Murder and two counts of
Assault in the Second Degree. Munoz
was lodged in the Justice Center Jail
and was arraigned in Multnomah
County Circuit Court on Monday,
December 14,1998.
A third defendant, Antoine Depree
Williams, DOB July 5, 1973, is cur­
rently in custody for unrelated fed­
eral criminal convictions and is incar­
cerated in the Snake River Correc­
tional Institution in Ontario, Oregon.
Williams was also charged on Friday,
December 11,1998, with two counts
o f Aggravated Murder, two counts
o f Attempted Aggravated Murder
and two counts o f Assault in the
Second Degree. Williams willbe trans­
ported from Ontario to Portland at an
unspecified date for arraignment in
Multnomah County .Homicide detec­
tives state the investigation is con­
tinuing and do not rule out the pos­
sibility o f additional indictments.

Two Suspects In Custody - A n­

Eight Robberies In Portland And
G resham
P o rtland P o lice B ureau and
G resham Police Departm ent d e­
tectives have arrested two o f three
suspects who have been tied to a
series o f eight local robberies which
w ere reported from G resham and
Portland Police betw een N ovem ­
ber 11, 1998 and D ecem ber 12,
1998. Police agencies in the Seattle
area are said to be investigating a
series o f eighteen sim ilar robber­
ies. The robbery activity in Port­
land appears to have started at
about the same time the Seattle
robbery activity subsided.
On D ecem ber 8, 1998, T ues­
day, officers and detectives from
G resham and Portland Police ar­
rested G ary D ouglas W ilson, DOB
Septem ber 28, 1966, at SE 182nd
Ave. and SE Division St. W ilson
w as lodged at the M ultnom ah
C ounty Justice Center Jail and was
indicted on Decem ber 15, 1998,
by a M ultnom ah County Grand
Jury for m ultiple counts o f First
and Second Degree Robbery.
On D ecem bers, 1998, in a sepa­
rate incident, Douglas W ayne Dunn
D O B D e c e m b e r2 1 ,1973, a Seattle
resident, w as arrested at SE 180th
and SE Division St. and charged
w ith m ultiple counts o f First and
Second D egree Robbery, Kidnap­
ping and Felon in Possession o f a
Firearm. He, too, was indicted by
a M ultnom ah County G rand Jury
on D ecem ber 15, 1998, for Rob­
bery, Kidnaping and Felon in Pos­
session o f a Firearm.
Investigators are currently look­
ing for a third person, Edward R.
Guerrero, male, Hispanic, DOB O c­
tober 06, 1970, for whom robbery
warrants have been issued.
Dunn, W ilson and G uerrero are
suspected to have been involved in
confrontational arm ed robberies in
which em ployees and custom ers
ofhotels and small businesses were
threatened with guns and robbed.
In several instance the suspects
ju m p e d o v e r c u sto m e r service
counters to threaten their victims.

On December22,1998,at 11:30 AM,
Detectives from the Portland Police
Bureau Computer Crimes Unit and the
MultnomahCountyChildAbuse Team,
served a search warrant at 5630N Inter­
state Avenue, Apartment #C.Inside the
residence, hundreds o f photographs
depicting small children and youngboys
in explicit sex acts were located. These
5630 N Interstate Avenue #C
photos had been retrieved from the
Internet. Also located were a large num­
ber o f Polaroid pictures o f young
boys.Arrested in connection with the
incidentis JohnMichael Decker, dateof
birthJune 13,1948.Mr Deckerhas pre­
vious convictions of sex related crimes
against young boys. Deckerwascharged
with Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse I
andEncouragingChildSexual Abuse II.

has been meeting young boys in chat
rooms on America Online and at times,
sending thempomographic pictures.The

Protesters Dispersed, Arrested In
Downtown Portland
On D ecem ber 17 , 1998, Thurs­
day, approximately twenty-five pro­
testers were arrested by Portland
Police Officers during a mobile three
and one h alf hour dem onstration in
dow ntow n Portland. M ost o f the
dem onstrators were dem onstrating
their opposition to the recent United
States miliary action in Iraq. Others
were reportedly demonstrating their
support o f opposition to the im­
peachm ent proceedings against
President Clinton.
A small crowd o f protesters gath­
ered outside the Edith Green Fed­
eral Office Building, 1220 SW Third
Ave, shortly after 4:00 P.M. At least
one arrest was made at about 4:30
P.M. after one protester struck a

horse with a sign. Others blocked
traffic on SW Third Ave. The crowd
is believed to have grown to about
200 and moved in segments to other
areas in the downtown area.
Two groups o f protesters were
taken into custody at SW 6th and
SW Yamhill St and later at SW 5th
and SW Morrison St. after being
ordered to disperse. Portland Po­
lice officers were called in to handle
the crowd which were withdrawn at
about 7:00 pm.

On Dec. 16,1998 at approximately
9 :10p.m. members o f the Multnomah
County S h e riffs O ffice Special In­
vestigations Unit and the Gresham
Police Department SERT team ex­
ecuted search warrants at 17441 SE
Division Street, #22, Portland, O r­
egon, and 15151 SE Stark, #9, Port­
land, Oregon for evidence in a case
regarding the distribution o f heroin
and cocaine in the east Portland and
Gresham area. Five Mexican nation­
als were arrested and booked into
the M ulthnomah C ounty Jail on
charges o f Possession and D istribu­
tion o f Controlled Substances. The
subjects arrested were:

The investigation which culmi­
nated in the execution o f the search
warrants and arrests had been an
on-going investigation within the
Multnomah County S h eriffs Office
Special Investigations Unit for sev­
eral months. This group was respon­
sible for the distribution o f heroin
and cocaine to street level users
who made their contacts via pay
phones, pagers, and cell phones.
Heroin and cocaine purchased in
small amounts, rapped in balloons
and carried in the mouth o f the deliv­
ery person, was the modus oper-
andi. You call - they deliver, all over
east Portland and Gresham area, $40
and up.
Evidence recovered in the search
w arrants included prepackaged
heroin and cocaine; a 9mm handgun
and am m unition; approxim ately
$28,000 cash, m ostly 5 ’s, 10’s,2 0 ’s
50’s, and 100’s; hundreds o f small
balloons; cell phones and pagers;
and several vehicles used to make
deliveries.
