The magic o f the award-winning
Will Vinton Studios joins forces with
the comic genius o f Eddie M urphy in
“The PJs,” the first stop-motion ani
mation series ever to air in primetime.
Set in a big city housing project,
the “ foam ation” series smashes cul
tural sterotypes and taboos as it takes
a satirical look at urban family values.
Created by M urphy and Larry
W ilmore & Steve Tompkins. “The
PJs” is produced by Imagine Televi
sion, Eddie M urphy Productions and
W ill V inton Studios in association
with Touchstone Television and pre
mieres Sunday, January 10, at 8:30
P M (E T /P T )onF ox.
The series moves to its regular
time on Tuesday, January 12,at8:30
PM(ET/PT).
V o ic in g T h u rg o o d S tu b b s,
M urphy stars as the cantankerous
superintendent o f the Hilton-Jacobs
Projects. All Thurgood wants is to be
left alone w ith his recliner and his
beloved “W heel o f Fortune.” But
w hether it’s a flood o f
water from faulty plumb
ing or a flood o f com
plaints from the ten
ants, it seems there’s
ju st never enough time
to kick back and relax with a
“ forty,” Thurgood’s beverage
o f choice.
Thurgood’s wife Muriel (Loretta
Devine, “W aiting to Exhale”) is the
calming force in his life. Sweet as can
be, her feathers never get ruffled and
she seems to find the good in any
body or any situation.
She keeps a journal o f her life b e
cause that’s w hat her hero Oprah
does. W hile Thurgood and M uriel
have no kids o f their own, they act as
surrogate parents to Calvin (Crystal
Scales), abright 10-year-old who idol
izes Thurgood, and his friend Juicy
(M ichele M organ) whose parents are
so overw eight they can’t fit through
the doorway to their apartment.
