poetry m ourns the death o f a lover, the
loss o f her hom e, the w ay our society
sm others itself. In this pregnant grief,
Trem blay holds the direction to heal­
ing: through the old w ays, through sto­
ries, through travel home.

Memorial Ski Race

the same tim e during the third annual
Kyle Curran M em orial Ski Race on
Sunday, January 3. The race will be
held at the Mt. Hood Ski Bowl. Skiers
o f all ages and levels are encouraged to
participate in this event. Registration
for the dual, head-to-head slalom race

rem ain in g tu rk e y s w ere d o n ated to the
C ascade A ids Program and O utreach M in­
istries.
A gain o ur hope at R adio Cab is to give
back, su p p o rt, and be in v o lv ed in the
com m unity that we b eliev e su p p o rts us all
year long. We feel the b est way to give, is
th at o f o u rse lv e s. The d riv e rs o f R adio
Cab donated th eir tim e and money to h o p e­
fu lly m ake th is a b e tte r C h ristm a s for
th o se who may not o f had the ch an ce.

And Culture

he Portland community celebra­
to give tion o f Kwanzaa, a seven day holi­
day o f African-American culture
will begin with a Children’s Kwanzaa pro­
gram on Satuarday, Dec. 26, 1998 from
12:00 noon- 2 pm at the N. Portland Branch
Library, 512 N. Killingsworth St. children
and youth will participate in a variety o f
activities that include singing, dancing, drum­
ming, arts and crafts, storytelling and re­
freshments. Join in this very special day o f
celebration for the children and youth spon­
sored by the N. Portland Branch Library,
Black Educational Center, and Project Net­
work. The sights and sounds o f a tradition
African marketplace featuring community
vendors will highlight the Kwanzaa festivi­
ties on Sunday, Dec. 27 from 12 noon- 6pm ,
at the Multicultural Senior Center located at
5325 NE MLK Jr. Blvd, (entrance is through
the rear parking lot on NE Garfield Ave).
The Portland Branch o f the NAACP will
present the critically acclaimed family ori­
ented film, “Once Upon A Time When We
Were Colored on Dec. 27, followed the
next night by a community learning activity
on cooperative economics presented by the
