T oday, he stands proud as th e ow n er o f the only A frican-A m erican art gallery in voice spoke for w hat seem ed like an eternity and w hen he looked up again, it w as dark. He returned to Portland am azed by the experience. The inner vision rem ained w ith him and two years later, h e realized that his des­ tiny w as bring the art and spirit o f Eagle G allery’ opened its doors on M ay 15,1997. N ot only is the gallery a place o f astonishing beauty w here dow ntow n Portland. Sam uel’s journey from obscurity to success epitom izes the A m erican dream. W hen his fam ily m oved to Portland, he attended Irvington Grade School and G rant High School then w o rk e d as a p h o to g ra p h e r fo r Bonneville Pow er Administration. O ne afternoon, his life suddenly changed. W hile on assignm ent at the N ez Pierce Indian Reservation in Idaho, he w ent into a store to pick up A frica to Portland through stone sculptures from Zim babw e.
