Page A 6 25, 1998 (Elie JJortlanb © b seru er Community Holiday Celebration I n the afterm ath o f a strong surge o f revitalization and develop­ ment throughout, the Northeast Port­ land community announces its first, annual “Spirit on the Boulevard” cel­ ebration to show o ff its new look and promote com munity pride and unity during the holiday season. The celebration it the efforts o f many in the com munity - residents, business owners, neighborhood and business associations, city leaders, non-profit organizations, city agen­ cies, school children, communities o f faith and other groups. Spearheaded by the Portland Police Bureau, the North-Northeast Business Associa­ tion (N-NEBA), the Northeast Com ­ m unity D evelopm ent Corporation (NECDC), and the NE Coalition o f Neighborhoods, The “Spirit on the Boulevard” is a series o f activities centered around raising funds to pur­ chase large wreaths to be hung along the boulevard from NE Broadway Street to NE Colum bia Boulevard beginning December 4. The “S pirif’project brings together business owners, neighbors, students, com munity organizations and civic leaders in an annual series o f events to highlight the revitalization efforts tak­ ing place in the area and promote a sense o f pride and unity during the holiday season. Activities for the “Spirit on the Boulevard” include: H O L ID A Y W R E A T H S - Funds are being raised through grants and donations from businesses and neigh­ borhood associations to purchase and hang up to 100 large, artificial wreaths along the boulevard, from NE Broad­ w ay Street to N E C olum bia Boule­ vard. The M ayor or her designee w ill “light” the Tree and “hang” a wreath.
