Prior to her debut as a come-
dienne, Angela had a love for
sports. Her athletic ability was
clearly evident during her child
hood as she excelled in nearly
every sport. Angela received a
scholarship to a small southern
college after graduating high
school, but turned down the of
fer in exchange for the beauty
business. As a model, she ap

Singer/rapper/ songwriter Lauryn Hill
smashes the record for first week sales
and believ es music success and mother
hood go hand-in-hand, in the November
Ebony.
“I knew that when I got the opportu
nity to do my own sound, it would be a
fusion o f raw hip hop beats and tire
instrumentation that 1 grew up listening
to,” says Lauryn Hill who produced the
mega hit album “The Miseducation of
Lauryn Hill.” Hill’s strong, soulful vo
cals were first heard as the solo female
member o f the Fugees. While pregnant
with her first child she stopped touring
with the group and experienced a sudden
wave ofcreativity. “My mind and ability
to create expanded. ” She recorded the hit
song “The Sweetest Thing” for the
soundtrack o f “Love Jones" and she
wrote, produced, arranged and directed
the video for Aretha Franklin’s “A Rose
Is Still A Rose.”
Lauryn believes music success and
motherhood go hand-in-hand and is ex
pecting her second child. She says moth
erhood has made her sexier. “I’ve got
hips and a little more on top now.” He
father o f her son Zion is Rohan Marley,
son o f reggae legend Bob Marley. They
plan to marry soon and want the event to
be private. Hill is considering arole in the
movie version o f “Dreamgirls," plan-
ninga tour with D'Angelo andcontinues
to help hundreds o f kids through The
Refugee Project, her not-for-profit orga
nization.
