“People think in order for music to
be gospel, it has to have words, bu,
that’s erroneous," declares Bruce
Allen, one halfofthe talented instru
mentalist duo, Allen & Allen. It is an
argument he and Allen Wiggins have
more than backed up since the re
lease of their self-titled debut release
on CGI Records back in 1994, which
sold upwards of 50,000 units and
garnered a highly coveted Stellar
award.
Just one year later, a sophomore
release, “A Blazing Grace” fared even
better. The duo followed up with
“Christmas Like Never Before”
which enjoyed success on adult con
temporary radio as well as jazz for
matted stations and their 1996 re
lease “Come Sunday” -featuring
Daryl Coley and Albertina Walker.
“Our new CD,” notes Wiggins, “is
aggressive evangelism targeting the
jazz marketplace. No traditional
hymns. All original music except for
a spirited remake of Earth, Wind &
Fire’s “True Devotion.” It’s just as
Jazzy as a Najee or Gerald Albright,
but the message is there and now that
both of us are pastoring, we’re com
mitted to using our gifts to the pur-

“God has greatly developed us,”
observes Allen. “We’re more than
just a name or the music, but a min
istry.”
