The court entered injunctive relief requiring the O regon A rena C orpo ration to take action to correct the ticket sale policies, and infilling o f seats. T he court ordered that “no w heelchair spaces m ay be infilled for a particular gam e or other event unless all an am bulatory patron could still purchase a ticket for a conven tio n a l c o m p a r a b le w h e e lc h a ir spaces.” T he court also ruled on many o ut standing and unresolved violations o f the A D A 's accessibility require m ents. T he court has ordered the O re g o n 's A re n a C o rp o ra tio n to m odify a lengthy list o f physical bar riers. T he list includes curb ramps, doors, handrails on ramps and signage as well as problem s in the luxury suites. Son of Portland Couples Serves on Navy's Newest Destroyer B y J ames E. S cott O n b o a rd U SS M a h a n — Ju st draw ing a paycheck w asn ’t enough for W illiam Anderson Jr. He w anted m ore out o f his career— adventure, travel and opportunity. So he joined the Navy. Anderson, son o f W illiam and Ida Anderson o f Portland, Or., serves onboard the guided m issile destroyer USS M ahan, hom e ported in N or folk. Va A nderson, 38, jo in ed the N avy in 1979. “ 1 w as bored and going no w here fast," said the first class petty officer. Today h e’s serving on one o f the N av y ’s new est and m ost advanced fighting ships. A sa destroyer, M ahan has a criti cal m ission in the N avy’s m ission. D estroyers have traditionally been the workhorses o f the m odem Navy, d efending battle g roups against threats from land, sea, and air. At the heart o f M ahan’s w ar fighting capability is the com puter based. A egis w eapons system , w hich in volves a pow erful radar that allow s the crew to detect, track and fire on m ore than 100 targets at a time. Mahan can launch as m any as 90 Tom ahaw k m issiles rapidly, each capable o f hitting targets hundreds o f m iles aw ay. As an operation specialist, Anderson works in the combat information center, the tactical heart o f the ship. "I manage a 28 person work center ensuring all maintenance, training and work get ac- compl ¡shed." he said. “I also work on the Aegis combat system, which incorpo rates the newest and greatest technology in the Navy.” Anderson says his time in the Navy has given him many exciting experi ences. “I’ve had the opportunity to de vote a Io, o f my spare time to volunteer work, such as working with the Special Olympics and Habilitât," he said. “I was awarded the Military Outstanding Vol untary Service Medal for my efforts.” A nderson is married to the form er Joanna Haddock, and they have one On-line Voters’ Pamphlet Now Available son, C hristopher, 11. He says he intends to stay on active duty until h e ’s eligible to retire. “ I w ant to settle in M aryland, and w ork in m anagem ent,” he said.
