R ather, says co -p ro m o ter A1 W ash “ it’s a sign o f the ever-in- creasing m aturity o f gospel m usic - - its perform ers and its audiences.” Award-winning, best-selling gos pel headliners on “Power '98”are Dottie Peoples, Fred Hammond, Hezckiah Walker, Men o f Standard, Marvin Sapp, The W illiams Brothers, and gos pel comedian, Jonathan Slocum. Love, a m ajor gospel booster w ith a nationally syndicated radio p ro g ra m , “ g o sp e l T ra x x ,” and W ash, head o f the D allas-based ALW Entertainment, haveconceived “ Pow er '9 8 ” as a follow -up to last y e a r’s sm ash gospel success, “T he T our o f Life.” T his becam e the m ost successful gospel tour ever: nearly 500,000 ticket buyers and visiting 90 U .S. cities. “ But *Pow er '9 8 ' is designed as a full scale m usic show , not ju st a co n cert,” says Love. “T here is a storyline, vignettes and sketches, and com edy... as w ell as the m usic.” In fact, the production was so com plex that Love and Wash insisted on an extensive and intense rehearsal period before “Power '98” kicked off in Janu ary. “It was an intense period. We had to set everything up and get everybody in line with the script, which has been writ ten by Fred Hammond, with input from Jonathan Slocum, and the entire concept o f the presentation,” Wash adds: “When we originally explained that we wanted to do something di fièrent from the usual concert package, all the artists became very excited.” The three-hour “ Power '98” travels with its own sets and a special concert stage and lighting unit (designed to cover every type o f theatre, concert hall and arena into which the production is al ready booked). Wash adds: “There no reason why rock bands should be the only ones to have this kind o f presenta tion,” “ P ow er 98” includes -- a first for Holocaust Remembrance Day Service to be Held April 22 P o r tla n d ’s a n n u a l Y orn H a - S h o a h s e r v ic e w ill be h e ld at C o n g r e g a tio n S h a a r ie T o ra h on W ednesday, A p ril 22, a t 7 pm .
