For those w ho desired the
safety features o f a Volvo, but
snubbed the boxy, tank-like ap
pearance, here’s som ething for
you. T he all-new Volvo C 70 is
so, well, un-Volvo. Sculpted
curves and defined body lines
com bine for an attractive two-
door coupe. But as pleasing as it
is to look at, it is as fun to drive.
It packs a turbocharged 5-cylin-
der in-line all-aluminum engine
with double overhead camshafts
and 20 valves. Safety isn’t sacri

Lincoln Navigator
Lincoln, Ford s luxury car di
vision, is going after the baby
boom er generation with a pas
sion. This rebellious group rede
fined luxury as an upscale sport-
utility-vehicle (SUV). Lincoln’s
response: T he Navigator, an up
scale cousin to Ford’s full-size
Expedition SUV. Powered by a
5.4-liter, V8 engine boasting
230 horsepower, the Navigator
is exceptionally quiet tor an SUV.
T he Subaru Forester is the
newest “hybrid” sport-utility-
vehicle (SUV) to hit dealers'
showrooms as a 1998 model.
Taking cues from the H onda
CR -V and Toyota RAV4, the
Forester is more like a car than a
truck. Built off the same plat
form as the Impreza small car,
the Forester is powered by the
2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine used
in the larger Legacy passenger
car. It also comes standard with
the same full-time, all-wheel-
d riv e system fo u n d o n all
Subaru products. T he Forester
is on sale now with a base price
of under $20,000.
