()ne .summer day, during my childhood, my brother and I
were .seriously at play. Rolling down our drive way in a
pressed cardboard storage barrel, w , without doubt, trusted
one another to stop the barrel before it would have a chance
to enter the street and it's dangers. We never though twice
about each other's dedication to the other's safety.
As ( 'hristians, hc should strive to truly trust the Lord,
Jesus Christ, with all aspects o f our lives. He wilt not let us
roll into the oncoming dangers o f sin without providing a
stop fo r us. He gives us the power or gift or ability io stop
ourselves in the form o f what we refer to as freewill. Making
the right choices will protect us fro m sins deadly dutch
The analogy o f rolling down a driveway, in a barret,
illustrates the way we, sometimes, blindly play with tempta
tion.
Only a strong intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, our
savior, will enable and inspire us to select our activities, in
life with more care fo r our spiritual survival.

Craig felt that all of the young sing
ers and m usicians o f the city needed
to come together as a collective
m usical body. At that point Dave
Y oung pulled everything together
We gave him the nam es ofthe indi
viduals we felt should be involved

Cook, Eric Smith, Kerwin Manning.

“ W e all eventually cam e to
gether for a series o f m eetings,
throw ing out ideas and things we
w anted to do as well as the plan of
action we were going to take to pull
this off.”
T his dream becam e a vivid real
ity on N ovem ber 6, 1993 w ith the
c h o ir's first recording, w hich took
place at T oledo’sM t P ilgrim B ap-
tist C hurch. "W e had a young lady
h andling our public relations who
happened to have w orked at one of
the radio stations in the city,” says
Still. “People ended up attending
the session out of sheer curiosity
because they d id n ’t have any idea
as to w hat the Im ani Project w as.”
Still adds, "T he church holds
about 1200 people and I guess we
had around 1400 to 1500 come out.
I think that the hype and the excite
ment that was generated that night
w ill be so m ething th at people
around here will never gorget.”

He w as one o f fourteen children born to Johnnie and V ersie

w here he w as a Platoon Sergeant He received the Am erican
T heatre C am paign m etal, Purple H eart and EA M E C am paign
M etal w ith tw o bronze stars, the W orld W ar 2 V ictory metal,

1945 Follow ing his discharge he m oved to Portland, O regon
O nce here he attended barber school and cut hair for four years
On M ay 6, 1950 he m arried E. Jean Hilburn. They had one son,
Ronald W ayne Dillard R obert w as a w aiter on the N orthern
Pacific Rail Road H e w as one o fth e first tw o blacks hired to drive
for Rose City T raction Bus com pany In 1955 he hired on with the
United S tates Postal Service, w here he retired from in 1982.
During this time he served as Union President oflocal 315 He was
a m em ber o f Allen T em ple C M E Church for many years. He
served as a Stew ard, T rustee, and R ecording Stew ard, on the
Finance B oard and w as afaithful m em ber until hebecam eill.
He w as a m em ber o f P rince Hall G rand L odge A cacia #6 o f
M asonic Fraternity, 32 M ason. Served as Patron o f Adah Chapter
#6, order o fE astem Star, PH A H e was a member ofM ina Temple
#68 order o f M ystic Shrine M em ber o f W illam ette C onsistory
#23, 33 M ason, and a past G rand M aster o f Prince Hall Grand
L odge He w as a m em ber o f the N AA CP and the Urban League
o f Portland
