For Public Hearing
Notice is hereby given that a public hearing, if so requested by
any interested person, will be held by the Tri-County Metropoli
an Transportation District of Oregon (Tri-Met) at 3:30 pm,
Wednesday, September 24, 1997 at the Portland Building,
1120 SW 5th Avenue, 2nd Floor, Room C., Portland, Oregon,
for the purpose of considering a project for which federal
assistance is being sought. Persons requesting that this hear
ing be convened should contact Tri-Met’s Finance Administra
tor, by telephone at (503) 238-5850, or in writing at 4012 S E 17
Ave., Portland, OR, 97202 by Monday, September 8, 1997.
The project under consideration is Westside-Hillsboro Light
Rail. Tri-Met received federal approval in September 1992 to
design and construct the Westside rail project from downtown
Portland to SW 185th Avenue in Washington County. In
December 1994, the Federal Transit Administration approved
an amendment to extend the rail line from SW 185th into
downtown Hillsboro by Fall, 1998.
Fiscal year 1998 funding requested in this grant application for
continuation of the rail project is up to $63,400,000 in federa
assistance. (Exact amount depends on Congressional action.)
These federal funds would be matched with up to $15,850,000

tunnel excavation; final design; procurement of vehicles, track,
electrification, signals, communication and fare collection equip
ment, and other system requirements; right of way acquisition,

A discussion of displacement of persons, families and busi
nesses associated with the W estside-Hillsboro Project is in
cluded in Final Environmental Impact Statements on file at Tri-
Met offices. The project is in conformance with comprehensive
land use and transportation planning in the area and is pro
grammed in regional and state Transportation Improvement
Programs.
In the event a hearing is held, Tri-Met will afford opportunity for
interested persons or agencies to be heard with respect to the
social, economic, and environmental aspects of the project.
