On W ednesday, May 14, at 12
noon over 200 radio stations across
the country participated in a 30 sec
ond moment o f silence in honor o f
the late Notorious B.I.G., followed
by the world premiere o f two new
tribute tracks “ I’ll Be Missing You”
and “W e’ll Always Love Big Poppa.”
At the same time, MTV aired the
tribute video to “I ’ll Be Missing
You.”
Bad Boy Entertainm ent's CEO,
producer and artist Sean “Puffy”
Combs comments on why he de
cided to honor Biggie in this way, “I
w anted to tell B.I.G. how I was
feeling, I wanted to have one last
conversation with him. The concept
o f the tribute single was to express
my personal feelings and the feel
ings from the Bad Boy family. This
is our way o f speaking to Biggie,
letting him know how much we loved
him .” Faith Evans said, “Hopefully,
we can get across a message because
when something like this happens,
we always say, when is it going to
stop. ’” My heart goes out to anybody
who has experienced such a loss.”
“I’ll Be Missing You” features
vocals by Combs with Evans and
112; it was written by Faith Evans
and Todd Gaither and produced by
Combs and Stevie J.
The song was inspired by the
Police hit, “Every Breath You Take”
and the chorus o f the song is reflec
tive o f Puffy’s and Faith’s personal
feelings o f B.I.G. The lyrics read
“Every step I take/every move 1 make/
every single day/every time I pray/
I’ll be missing you/thinking o f the
day/when you went away/what a life
to take/what a bond to break/I’ll be
missing you.”
