W h e n s e l e c t i n g f ro m th e Good nutrition is so very critical to a baby’s life, fh e message is being delivered by Dr. Lillian Beard during a visit last week to the Portland Ob server Beard has dedicated her life to the care, health and safety o f infants, chil dren and adolescents. She is a practic ing pediatrician from Washington,. D C ., who is currently on a public ser vice and promotional campaign across the country , sponsored by Carnation. The greatest opportunity for de velopment occurs during the first 12 months o f life, she said. For example, development o f in tellect occurs during this period, as the brain doubles in size. It is widely rec ognized that a good start for babies begins w itli the nutrition obtained from milk. Beard says the milk from a baby’s mother is the most important food for a newborn. Carnation makes it products come as close as it can to the nutritional quali ties o f the milk mother nature in tended , she explained. Beard says Carnation wants to help in the health o f newborns and can offer a very important and nutri tional substitute when it is needed As part o f the public service cam paign, C arnation is launching a website on the internet for parents. “CamationBaby.com” provides com prehensive information to help alle viate fears and support couples as they proceed down the road o f parenting, Beard said. The site will be available starting in August. "Pregnancy and the arrival o f a new baby in a family are truly an ex citing and special time, however many parents feel unsure about he many different aspects o f pregnancy and caring for a new child," Beard said. The Carnation baby website is another vehicle for parents to find the information they want and need as they prepare for and start caring for a baby and will help ease their worries m a n y in fa n t f o rm u la s a v a ila b le t o d a y ,” s a y s D r.
