FORD INCREASES SPENDING WITH BLACK SUPPLIERS Ford Motor Co. spent SI.96 billion on automotive parts and services from minority-owned companies in 1996. Ford’s record purchase exceeded its 1995 mark bv S i62 million. By the year 2000, the company aims to target 5 percent of its domestic purchases to minority-owned suppliers tor a total of approximately S2.5 bil lion. However, last years record figure represented 4 percent, pushing Ford ahead of schedule. Ford has sought other ways to boost the long-term success of minority sup pliers. Recently, it launched a financial assistance program to help suppliers pay interest on loans that support their growth, and hosted a business forum that brought minority suppliers together lor networking and cooperative busi ness planning.
