American Girls, ?\m ber Vision:
works by 20th century composers,
The Uninvited, had its world
premiere in a sold-out, extended
run at Seattle’s On the Boards, as
part o f the program s’ New Perfor
mance Series.
Elegantly built around a variety
o f household props, The Unin
vited is a sophisticated tale explor
ing the psychological interplay that
comes from an unexpected encoun
ter with an unwelcomed visitor.
Haunting, humorous, stirring and
physical movement that reveals
the strange, often absurd oscilla
tion between fear and longing in
human relationships.
Packed with uncanny non-se-
quiturs and a refreshing visual
design. The Uninvited is a care
fully crafted physically articulate
and dynamic dance theater event.

The statistics about young black
men are familiar: Homicide is their
#1 killer; one fourth are in jail, on
parole, or probation: and their
rates o f unemployment, teen
fatherhood, educational dropout-
and death-exceed those of any
other demographic group. Living
to Tell About II is the first book to
look beyond the statistics at the
real lives of most young black
men in America today,
journalist Harrell llawsev
traveled across country,
listening to young men talk
about their childhoods,
relationships with parents and
women, sexuality, self-respect,
spirituality, and ambitions.
The result is a portrait of a
generation facing manifold
challenges and dilemmas of
black manhood-and living
to tell about it.
