The lecture will be presented by Dr. Pamela Jackson The "Jesus Series" presents the Church's teach ing regarding the person of Jesus Christ for the Catholic and ecu menical community. The presenta tions focus on the resurrected Lord proclaimed by Tradition and Scrip ture Dr. Jackson presentation will be given at Mount Angel Seminary (Mt. Angel, OR.) on Friday, Janu ary 24. and at the Franciscan Re newal Center (0858 S.W Palatine Hill Road, Portland) on Saturday. January 25. Her lecture begins at <3z/ 7:30 p.m. on both evenings. Dr Pamela Jackson is currently Professor of Liturgy at Mount St M ary’s Seminary in Emmetsburg, Maryland She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University, a Master of Divinity degree from Yale Institute of Sacred Music, a Master of Arts, A M asterof Philoso phy, a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph D.) all from Yale University. Dr. Jackson was Assistant Profes sor of Theology at Boston College (1987-1994). She has presented nu merous lectures in academic and pro fessional settings, as well as in pasto ral settings. She presented several lectures for Boston Catholic Television. She is a member ol the North American Academy of Liturgy, the Hymn Society o f A m erica, and the Patristica Bostoniensia. She serves as a liturgical consultant for the D iocese o f Fort W ayne/South Bend. IN , and lor the Archdiocese of Boston. She is a member ol the Board of St. Bede's Publications The "Jesus Series" is organized bv the Archdiocese of Portland in collaboration w ith the university ol Portland. Marylhurst College and Mt. Angel Seminary. The series will consist of presentations held monthly through May 1997 Each presentation will be ninety minutes in length with opportunity lor ques tions. Ls&meip Of Eddie “Terry” Overton Josiah Joshua Nunn, III was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, August 20, 1918 to Josiah J. and Pearlee Jacko. He was a student at Arkansas A&M State College and was serving as principal of an elementary school when he was drafted for military ser vice, 1941. He attended O fficer's training school at Fort Still, O kla homa and served as Lieutenant and later promoted as Captain a few days prior to ending his military career at Ft. Lewis, WA. He taught m athemat ics to new army personnel during his military career. During his military career at Camp Swift, Texas, he met Bobbie Jean Bonner, a student at Tillotson Col lege, Austin, Texas. They became engaged after a two week courtship and were married a year later. Janu ary 29, 1944, in Houston, Texas. To this union two children were born, Darla and Joe D. He moved to Port land after military service in the Phil ippines and received a degree in pre medicine at Lewis and Clark College and attended Oregon Health Sciences University for two years. He received a Master of Science degree from University of Portland and did post graduate studies at University of California, Berkeley. He was selected as a 1949 recruit by the Urban League in its program to assign African Americans as clerks and managers in local department stores. He became the first African American male to be hired at Lipman-W olfe Department Store and was promoted to manager of the camera department. He be came the first African American male to be hired as a clerk at M eier and Frank. His career as an educator began at Eliot Elementary School (now Har riet T ubm an). He was a mathematics and science teacher, baseball coach at Jefferson High School, later served as Academic Dean prior to transfer ring to the district area office to coor dinate the Student Transfer Program for Portland Public Schools. Each year he organized Little League Teams and other sports ac tivities for students. He retired after 37 years of service with Portland Schools. Joe was a member of St. Philip, The D eacon, Episcopal C hurch, Kappa Alpha Psi, Treasurer for 35 vears, former member of Teacher “On Golden Pond” Opens St. Andrew's 28th Theater Season on January 31st "On Golden Pond" performed by the North End Players, opens at 8 p.m. Friday, January 31st, at St. Andre w'sChurch. This two act drama written by Ernest Thompson is di rected by Bert Mann who is the found ing director of the North End Play ers. Additional 8:00 p.m. evening performances ol "On Golden Pond are set for Saturday-February 1st. Friday-February 7th. and Saturday February 8th. Terry was born on September 14, 1924 to the late Rueben and Lorenc Overton in Athens, Texas He was an a big sports fan and is a graduate of Fisher H ighSchool, he was one of the premier football players and was known as "Rail Head”. He married Celia M. Alex in 1942 and to this union four daughters were born. C^tiw/c Coining Celebration for Minnie Eva Scott July 30, 1920 - January 4, 1997 Minnie Eva Scott was born to Edmond and Mattie Harvey on July 30, 1920 in Forrest, M ississippi. She was the seventh of nine children. Minnie received her early education in Forrest. Mississippi. She gradu ated from Edmond Hawkins High School in Forrest, Mississippi. In 1949 she met Manuel Scott and they were married six months later Minnie loved the Scott family very dearly. Minnie also attended Oregon Health Science Center in Portland. O r egon. She became employed by Denorval Unthank for eleven years She graduated in 1950. She then returned to school in 1973 and was certified the same year as a Certified operating room Technician. Minnie was know for her Gumbo by all family members. She was considered Mrs. Soul Food herself. She loved the sport of golf, especially Colwood Country Club and Pebble Beach G olf Course. She was also a member of the Leisure Hour Golf Club. After being married, she joined the family at Bethel A.M.E. Church Under Rev. C.N. Austin. Over the years she served as President ol the Matron Club and had the I st Zodiac l ea. This event raised a lot of money for the church. Minnie was billed as a sophisticated lady and one of her specialties was style-shows and programs to benefit the building of the new church. Among the many programs she introduced was the Thom-Thumb Wedding and the W oman-less W edding. She was a member of the Fannie Cook WMS. She leaves tocherish her memory: a loving husband, Manuel Scott; three children. Charles Chinn, Robert Chinn and Linda Joyce Scott; and her godson Darrell Cox. Minnie has: three sisters. Dora Williams. Mattie Mullen and Katherin Sims, two brothers, James Harvey of Portland and Hugh Ratcliff ol Saganaw. Michigan. Minnie also had three brothers who preceded her in death. She also has six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of sister and brother in-laws. Terry joined the US Army in 1943 and served in Germany, Italy and France during World War II. He be gan his career as a Merchant Marine in 1945 and retired in 1984 after 39 years ol service. Washington High School in Blos som, Texas and went on to Cosmetology School in St. Louis. Missouri. She then went on to attend Portland State University. After receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree from P.S.U. She began a teaching career which spanned over twenty-two years She taught in both the Portland Public School System and also in Catholic School Verena was a Charter member of Allen Temple C M E. Church She joined the church in 1948 Verena was also a member of the Celestial Choir, was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the M issionary Society and Eve Circle. She also sang with the Prove God Now Chou under the direction of Mrs. Walter Prichetl and The United Choruses ol the Pacific Northwest under the direction of Mrs. Leo Warren. & b Villan c Leannah Crawford Leannah Crawford was born in Wichita Falls. Texas on March 24, 19 16 and passed away on January 8, 1997 in Portland. Oregon. Leannah Crawford w ill be missed and cherished by all, espe cially her loved ones.
